We let creativity flourish

For most students, creativity is a passion that extends beyond the classroom. They can't simply switch off their imagination when the lesson ends. We provide clubs and activities to feed creative minds.

Our arts and drama clubs provide students of all ages with a way to express themselves and explore their creativity outside of the classroom.

Students can enjoy a wide variety of clubs, including:

  • Art clubs for Years 7-9 and 10 and 11
  • Primary and Secondary School drama clubs
  • Stage Crew Club
  • Life drawing classes (for our talented Post-16 art students)
  • Film club for Years 10 to 13

There’s something for everyone at BSB. From dissecting classic films at Film Club to staging their own dramatic productions, students learn to work together to achieve a greater understanding of themselves, the arts, and each other.

ISTA (International Schools' Drama Association)

BSB is a member of the ISTA (International Schools' Drama Association), a charitable company based in the UK with a membership of over 120 schools worldwide. The Association is run by theatre educators and specialised artists, offering a rich programme of theatre experiences and resources. Participating in the ISTA Festival permits our students to see and experience the creative abilities of a group of international students and artists working together for an intensive three-day period.

TAPS (Theatre Arts Programmes Symposium)

ISTA organises TAPS events which provide students with a seminal theatre and learning experience that will act as a launch pad for their own further explorations of theatre. Last year, thirteen Post-16 students attended a TAPS festival in New York.

LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art Examinations)

LAMDA has been offering these examinations for over a hundred years, and are recognised throughout the world. Students who study through these examinations develop numerous skills. They learn to unlock their imaginations, foster an appreciation of literature, poetry and drama and improve standards through the spoken word. Students do get all of these opportunities in the extensive Drama programme run at the School, but this gives each of them the chance to go even further, whilst working in smaller groups.

In addition to the personal progress that they make, they can measure their progress through international standards, build confidence and self-esteem and acquire skill certification for their career development.

The areas that LAMDA cover are Acting, Devised Performance, Mime, Verse and Prose as well as an advanced level examination, which counts towards university UCAS points.

We work with peripatetic teachers from an organisation known as Theatre in Education (TIE). TIE is extremely experienced in the preparation of students for examinations for the London Academy and has a percentage pass rate of 98%. In 2010, BSB students achieved a pass rate of 100%, 70% obtaining either merits or distinctions.

The delivery of the course works round students’ existing timetables to ensure that there is minimal disruption to lessons.
