Tough, but rewarding

The Duke of Edinburgh Award provides students with fresh challenges and gives them something extra to add to their CV. More than that, it's a fun, rewarding, and exciting way for students to learn new skills and work with each other. Teamwork. Togetherness. Physical endurance. Mental agility. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a broad and varied programme of personal development that enables every student to shine.

Available to all students over the age of 14, the Award is available at three levels: Gold, Silver, and Bronze -- each with its own set of challenges.

To achieve the award, students must take part in a range of activities that cover the following areas:

  • Volunteering (undertaking service)
  • Physical skills (sport, dance, or fitness)
  • Life skills (practical skills, social skills, and personal interests)
  • Expedition (planning, training for, and completing an adventurous journey)

It's a popular and life-changing programme, with more than 275,000 students in the UK participating each year. Participation at BSB is voluntary, but highly recommended for students who want to explore their limits and challenge themselves to go further.
