Every student needs to learn how to think. Being able to express those thoughts is just as important. Outside the classroom, our Public Speaking and Social Awareness societies give students the chance to engage in debate and learn how to make a coherent argument, understanding and interpreting all points of view . It's also a chance for students to become more aware of their surroundings and to understand some of the problems faced by the world.

Our Debating Society meets regularly and provides a fun, lively forum for students to engage in structured debate, enhancing their public speaking skills, as well as working as part of a group to explore wider issues in society. Students are given the opportunity to practice their skills in internal and external debating competitions.

The Model United Nations enables students to dive in at the deep end of the global community -- and gain a greater understanding of diverse cultures and worldwide issues as a result. Participants research a country, take on a role such as a diplomat or politician, and engage in simulated debate at the Hague every January along with 4,000 other students from around the world.

Amnesty Plus meets to discuss important human rights issues and contributes toward campaigns, with activities ranging from letter writing to fundraising. Students also give presentations on relevant issues to school assemblies, giving them the opportunity to speak in front of their peers.

Our Student Council offers additional opportunities to practice public speaking and contribute towards the BSB community, giving students the chance to represent their classmates and make a case on their behalf -- ideal for students hoping to get a taste of real politics.
