IT suites: Everyone is connected

As part of our commitment to giving every student a modern education, we have a policy of integrating ICT into the broader curriculum, as well as teaching dedicated ICT skills as a discrete subject. Students are encouraged to use their ICT skills wherever possible. As a result, we’ve invested heavily in ICT facilities for the School.

Aspiring to reach the highest level of ICT provision, we have over 600 networked computers and 75 laptops available for students to use. In addition to our 12 dedicated PC suites, we also have a suite of 8 Apple Macs for creative work such as music composition, graphic design, and filmmaking. Our Primary and Secondary Libraries also contain PC areas for private study.

We have more than 200 iPads available across the two schools for use in classes as an additional learning aid.

Students always have access to a computer. Every classroom, whatever its function, has at least one computer and every computer has broadband internet access. We also provide digital cameras, scanners, printers, and other peripherals students require as part of their studies.

Post-16 students have their own study area including wireless access.

Design and technology facilities

At BSB, students learn by doing. Practical skills and design skills are highly valued. In 2009, we invested quarter of a million Euros upgrading our Design and Technology workshop. Now, our facilities are state-of-the-art.

Our new facilities are superb - clean, spacious, and well-appointed. Our workshops provide a safe and creative environment where students can learn how to solve practical problems, starting with the basics and working their way up to more modern, advanced equipment.

We operate two multipurpose workshops, where students are able to design and develop their ideas using wood, metal, plastics, electronics, and other materials. Students are taught in small class sizes, ensuring they're supervised and assisted at all times.

Students are able to benefit from experience using advanced design and manufacturing equipment including Computer Aided Designing and Computer Aided Manufacture such as laser cutting, router work, milling, turning and 3D rapid prototyping.

Food technology room

Our well-equipped food technology room goes beyond the kitchen and gives students everything they need to create a wide range of dishes, in a safe, supervised, and structured environment. The bright and open-space department can welcome up to 18 students at a time.

Nine kitchen areas are fully equipped with gas or electric hob and fan assisted ovens.

Each student has a selection of kitchen equipment and a range of up-to-date appliances at their disposal.

All students at BSB are offered the opportunity to manage their own kitchen safely and hygienically whilst experiencing a valuable life skill.
