A Level and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
At sixteen, it's time for our students to choose their path to higher education. We are the only school in Belgium to offer both the English A Level and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, enabling students to study subjects that matter to them most and properly prepare themselves for university.
We offer a wide variety of subjects at A Level. The IB Diploma covers a wide range of subjects and includes community service and the theory of knowledge. Both qualifications are highly regarded by universities in Britain and beyond, and are essential entrance requirements of almost all higher education institutions.
The IB Diploma is offered in bilingual variants: French/English and Dutch/English, giving it a truly international dimension. Meanwhile students have the opportunity to study self-taught languages (for example, Korean or Russian) which are supported outside of the normal taught student framework and leading to external qualifications.
In addition to academic qualifications, we encourage students to participate in our wide range of extra-curricular activities, community programme, and sports teams. We aim to take learning beyond the classroom and create learning experiences in every aspect of student life.
- In 2011, our IB results were outstanding—yet again—the best in Belgium in many categories, and a full third higher than the international average.
(15.2% of students passed with the highest marks of 40 or over, compared to just 5.3% on average globally) - The 2011 pass rate for the IB Diploma was a superb 87.9%.
- An impressive 47.2% of students achieved an A or A* grade at GCSE - and over double the UK national average of 23.2%.
Creativity, Action, and Service
Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) is an essential part of the IB Diploma with students requiring 150 hours of activity in order to graduate. Students are encouraged to make a positive impact on the community and become more self-aware, as well as becoming engaged and active citizens of the world.
Along with the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge these components make up the IB Diploma.
