Sociology
Â
Sociology is the study of society, an in-depth enquiry about the way humans organise their social world. It is taught as part of the A Level programme at BSB.
Sociologists study the different institutions in society from the family to the legal system, and evaluate and how they work together. Sociologists ask questions about how people's personalities, attitudes and behaviour are constructed and how personal qualities are shaped by the environment.
Most importantly of all, sociologists attempt to determine the best course of action for a healthy society, and concern themselves with questions such as reducing poverty, inequality, and discrimination.
Curriculum
As the course is based around the English A Level, it focuses mainly on British society. However, we have chosen to study the Global Development option at A2 in order to give students the chance to understand the wider world, especially the relationship between the developed and developing worlds. There are two exams in each year.
