An international approach to modern languages
In today's global society, modern languages are essential -- not just because they give students the vocabulary they need to be able to understand the languages of different cultures, but because they act as a key to unlocking greater knowledge of those cultures themselves.
BSB is a modern, progressive, and multicultural School with a truly International outlook. Students in Years 7 to 9 choose an additional second language which they may continue with to GCSE and beyond, while French remains a core subject throughout the Secondary School.
Our emphasis on modern languages contributes towards our ethos as a truly International learning community. We currently teach French, German, Spanish, and Dutch. Lessons take place in a dedicated languages suite on the first floor of the Lafontaine Building, which is fully equipped with audio-visual facilities, interactive whiteboards, and ICT equipment. A suite of 5 oral recording booths is also situated in the Lafontaine building.
School trips, such as the Year 7 trip to Albertville in the French Alps, are popular, as our Languages Clubs, which enable students to practice conversation in a relaxed and informal environment.
