German
German is one of the most rewarding languages to learn and BSB offers small, dedicated classes to enable students to promote success with the language. There are various trips including the opportunity to visit Berlin for those students studying the language Post-16.

Curriculum
All students choose a compulsory second additional language to study in Year 7. Students may choose German as their second additional language. We follow the ‘Projekt Deutsch’ programme that uses a wide variety of language activities, online materials, videos, cassettes, and authentic material from contemporary sources.
Students in Years 10 and 11 who wish to continue with German learn more complex language skills and become more immersed in German culture, using the ‘Lernpunkt Deutsch 3’ course combined with television and newspapers to develop linguistic skills through authentic materials.
Although considered one of the most difficult options, German is popular with Senior Students in Years 12 and 13 taking the subject at either A Level or as part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Students are dedicated and committed to the course, a fact reflected in our continuing examination success year on year.
