Spanish
Spanish is widely spoken around the world, and it is a lively and popular option among our students, particularly those with an interest in or connections to South America. Students follow the modern 'Caminos' textbook and are encouraged to take part in assemblies celebrating Spanish festivals and fiestas such as 'El Día de la Hispanidad' on 12 October and 'Reyes' in January.

Curriculum
All students in Years 7 to 9 study a second additional language. Students may choose to study Spanish from Year 7 onwards and are taught in mixed ability sets. Students are then given the option of continuing with the language in Years 10 and 11, where they will study for the (I)GCSE. In Year 10, students are offered the chance to take a trip to the south of Spain and stay with host families, immersing themselves in the Spanish language and culture.
Students in Years 12 and 13 may study Spanish as part of the A Level and International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme. Students in Year 12 may also take a trip to the south of Spain and stay with host families. Spanish at this level is taught in small, dedicated groups and uses authentic material from films, TV, newspapers, and the internet.
