A warm welcome to BSB

From Sue Woodroofe, Principal

The British School of Brussels is an international learning community at the heart of Europe, renowned across the globe. We offer a supportive, inclusive learning environment for over 1200 students, from ages 1 – 18 years, from more than 60 countries, that places emphasis on personal growth and development as well as academic achievement. Our academic rigour, at both Primary and Secondary level, is without question, from the Integrated Learning Themes in the Primary School to the opportunity to study both British and International qualifications at the ages of 16 and 18, leading on to Higher Education at the world’s best universities. In addition to this, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities and exciting trips, most of which are included in the fees and open to all.

Ability is always encouraged, wherever it is found. Challenge and inspiration are visible every day, everywhere, inside the classroom and beyond. Indeed, we are a leading School in many areas.

Here's how we're different

  • We are the only school in Belgium that offers A Levels and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, with the greatest range of subjects, giving students maximum choice.
  • We are the only School in Belgium to offer some examination subjects, e.g., Design & Technology, Textiles, Food & Nutrition, Film, Media Studies, Sociology.
  • We are the only School in Belgium to offer the IBCC, a new International Baccalaureate vocational qualification for students from the age of 16.
  • We were the first international School in Belgium to introduce a bilingual French/English stream alongside our English curriculum from the age of four.
  • We consistently achieve positive value added scores with the results of our external examinations at 16 and 18, which are often the best in Belgium.
  • Our students achieve offers from the top universities in the world every year, from Oxford to Cambridge, Harvard to MIT and many others across the globe.
  • Our students have set up their own charity, 'Best of Both', which works in partnership with four Primary schools in Northern Ghana.

However, all the facts in the world will not give you a sense of atmosphere

BSB is a place where learning is fun and relationships are strong. We’re more than a School; we’re a family, and we want the very best for every one of our students, nurturing and encouraging them in their development that they may grow up to realise their full potential as intelligent and compassionate global citizens, willing and able to make a difference in the world. BSB is welcoming to people of all backgrounds, nationalities and abilities; it supports wider families as well as the students themselves. But above all, we recognise that every child is unique, and so every child is valued. We believe that the BSB offers the best possible environment for every child, and we welcome you to visit our School and see and feel the BSB difference for yourselves.
