Our parents

Become part of our community.

On behalf of the British School of Brussels, let us extend our warm welcome to you. All parents are invited to participate in our diverse community and join the extended family of students, teachers, and other parents. Our 'Friends of BSB' organisation (FoBSB) is open to all and enables parents and guardians to participate in School life, making the most of their time here. Part activity group, part support network, our friends organisation is here to help you feel at home – even before you arrive.

Friends of BSB Organisation

Moving to a foreign country can be a daunting task. Our Parents' network is here to offer help and support even before you arrive in Belgium. We're able to offer assistance to parents who might wish to speak in their own language about School procedures and offer support for homemakers whose partner is out at work. We have even on occasion given advice and support for families returning to their home countries or another country when it's time to leave.

All parents are encouraged to participate in the wide range of opportunities to join in with our community. From volunteering to read to Primary School students, helping out at an after-school club, to working on the School’s various board ‘sub-groups’ such as marketing and premises. Every contribution is welcome

All parents of our students automatically become members of our ‘Friends of BSB’ organisation. An active group, FoBSB collaborates with the School on many levels, and serves as a focal point for social activity.

Families Online

Families Online is a password-protected and secure site that enables parents and guardians to access detailed information about the School such as latest news, our policy documents, procedures, reports, and School calendar. It also enables parents to sign up to activities such as trips and social events with other families.

All new families receive a registration letter to enable them to join Families Online. Parents can also use Families Online to keep their contact details updated, and share their contact details with other families.

Parents' Information Centre

Parent volunteers help to staff our Parents’ Information Centre, where you'll find a friendly ear to listen to your questions and offer assistance on a wide variety of subjects. Volunteers are happy to help with all your questions.

We are able to assist you with information on advice including:

  • Local services (doctors, dentists, etc)
  • Babysitters
  • Local knowledge and information about Brussels
  • Trips, clubs, and events run by the Friends
  • Access to the internet if you're not yet online

Trips and Activities

Trips and activities organised by FoBSB range from hobby groups and book clubs to cookery and language conversation groups. We also arrange frequent group trips to places of interest, encouraging parents to meet one another, get involved, and share active social lives with the parents of other students and children. It’s a diverse and cosmopolitan group – all are welcome.

Coordinators and Year/Class Reps

Both Primary and Secondary Schools at BSB have two Parent Coordinators who meet regularly with the Primary and Secondary Vice Principals. The role of these Coordinators is to keep parents informed via the Year and Class Representatives system via email and at a termly coffee morning where parents can add their input. Both Coordinators sit on the Friends of BSB Committee, which meets twice termly to discuss the parental agenda.

Each class at BSB has a Class Representative who:

  • welcomes new parents
  • arranges social events
  • liaises with the Class Teacher or Tutor
  • arranges for parent voluntary help in the classroom when requested

There are also Year Group Representatives who coordinate these activities across the entire Year Group.
