Parents

Welcome

BSB parents are warmly welcomed as full members of the School community. They are involved in countless activities which support School and student activities.  The formal organisation which pulls parents together is the 'Friends of BSB'. The aims of this Association, of which all parents are members, is to help families make the most of the School and of their time here. It is essentially a support group for parents and for the School. Its work is highly appreciated.

Friends of BSB Organisation

All parents of students at BSB automatically become members of Friends of BSB. This is a very active organisation which works with the School on any general non-academic issues which may involve parents. The Friends of BSB organisation is shown below:

Contacts Group

The Friends of BSB Contacts Group arranges social activities for parents at the School. It has three aims:

  • to help make newly arrived parents feel welcome
  • to celebrate the international character of the parent body
  • to instil a feeling of inclusiveness in all parents

Activities include hobby groups, book clubs, cookery and language conversation groups. The Contacts Group frequently organises trips to museums and other places of interest.

Coordinators and Year/Class Reps

The Primary and Secondary Schools at BSB have two Parent Coordinators each who meet regularly with their respective Vice Principals. The Coordinators in turn cascade information through the Year and Class Representatives system by communicating via email and usually at a termly coffee morning. The Coordinators sit on the Friends of BSB Committee which meets twice termly.

BSB parents

Each class at BSB has a Class Representative who:

  • welcomes new parents
  • arranges social events
  • liaises with the Class Teacher or Tutor
  • arranges for parent voluntary help in the classroom when requested
In some parts of the School there is also a Year Group Representative who coordinates these activities across the entire Year Group.

Events - Fundraising

Friends of BSB organises fund raising events including a Christmas Bazaar, Car Boot Sales, Second-Hand Book Sales and a Summer Ball for parents and staff. All members of the School community are invited to suggest how the funds raised may be used and the final decision on this is made at the Friends of BSB Committee Meeting.

Youth Club

The BSB Youth Club is organised and run by a committee of volunteer BSB parents with the School's support for the benefit of the students in Years 7,8 and 9. The Club takes place on nominated Friday nights and students enjoy traditional Youth Club sports and activities with occasional special events. The dates are advertised in the online Messenger. Membership is free with a small entrance fee. Club night supervision is dependent on parents volunteering their help on a rota basis.

For more information contact Youth Club Chair Rachel Short
