BSB's 40th Anniversary Celebrations Opening Ceremony and Memorabilia Exhibition

BSB welcomed close to 150 guests on 7 January 2010 for the opening ceremony/ Memorabilia Exhibition, inaugurating the School's 40th anniversary celebrations. Dr Brenda Despontin, the School's Principalofficially opened the event and HE Dr Rachel Aron, British Ambassador to Belgium, in her opening words congratulated the School on its remarkable achievements over the past four decades.Representatives from companies, embassies, NATO, local community businesses, the British Chamber of Commerce, School staff and parents joined in the evening's celebrations.

The evening included special guests and performances:
Mr Peter Pantlin, son of the late founder, Sir Dick Pantlin CBE presented an inspiring speech about the founding of the School
Hilary Vervaeck, longstanding teacher and friend of the School for over 30 years and one of the initial teachers appointed in 1970, spoke of her experiences as a novice teacher and recalled the all important discussions about the setting-up and ethos of the School
Peter Saunders, former Head of Middle School (Upper Primary) and Hilary Vervaeck provided a fascinating and amusing voice-over for the ‘BSB Early Years archive film' on 7 January, a voice-over reprised by Ken Wollard, former Arts Centre Director on 8 January
A specially commissionedbirthday song was written and performed by Year 6 students
The Memorabilia Exhibition "Life Begins at 40", displayed vividly the School's history since the inaugural meeting in December 1969, and the official opening in 1970 by the HRH Duke of Edinburgh and included photographs of previous BSB Principals teachers and students, BSB sports kit, publications and video footage of School Drama performances through the years. A special feature was a series of filmed interviews including one with former Principal, Jennifer Bray
To end the evening, Secondary School students put on a fashion show with students modelling 1970s clothes donated by staff and parents.
The 'Life Begins at 40' Memorabilia Exhibition is now closed, but a smaller exhibition will be available for viewing at selected forthcoming events during 2010.
