Secondary School
Welcome from Sue Woodroofe
Vice Principal & Head of Secondary School
The BSB secondary school is a supportive and welcoming environment where individuals are valued and can flourish. It is a happy and safe community – where it’s safe to learn and safe to take risks...everyone can play their full part both inside and outside the classroom.

It would be true to say that we live by the code of the 3 Rs:

  • Respect
  • Respect
  • Respect
  1. Respect for one another
  2. Respect for our lovely campus
  3. Respect for our learning and that of others

The BSB is certainly a learning community, we take seriously the expectations of the public examinations that all of our students work towards, whether at the age of 16 or 18. We follow the structure of the English curriculum, but yet add an international dimension that reflects our student population: this means that at the age of 16 our students sit 9 or 10 GCSEs or IGCSEs.

Post 16, we are unique in Belgium in offering both the English A Levels alongside the International Baccalaureate. We have small class sizes and well qualified teachers who give of their best to get the best from the students – inspiring and challenging them. Our record in public examinations speaks for itself as a reflection of what the BSB motivates the widest range of children to achieve.

But of course any good school is about more than examination results and timetabled lessons – our aim is to send out from here well balanced, self confident, compassionate human beings who will be able and willing to make a difference in the world after their BSB experience – how ever long it may have been. We have a thriving work in partnering projects here in Belgium, in the UK and across the developing world, to help and support others. We are also an active school – 24/7 – there are always sporting, dramatic or musical activities going on which reflect the busy extra curricula life of the students and staff.

We hope that this website gives you a flavour of BSB life in all its fullness - and of course you would be very welcome to come and see it for yourself!
