This week we launched the BSB Book Festival 2021, our annual celebration of books and the joy of reading. Two glorious weeks celebrating books, authors and illustrators, filled with readers, writers, colourful displays, parades, poetry slams and storytelling.
Books are a window to a wider world, and recognising this, the theme of this year’s event is ‘Epic Journeys,’ celebrating the unique way that books create space for deeper, more focused connections, challenge us to grapple with new ideas, and take us on exciting and exotic adventures without us ever having to leave our chair.
At BSB, we understand that children often need to recognise themselves in books, meaning diversity of characters and narratives is vital to create the spark that leads to readers for life.
Throughout this 12-day festival, students of all ages will have the opportunity to connect with other readers, but also with many different authors and poets, to help them discover their vital spark of inspiration. The diverse programme of activities comprises interviews, events and competitions. Reading tents will also allow students to ‘drop everything and read’ and they are encouraged to take books home from our “help yourselves” boxes.
“The BSB Book Festival is a vital part of the school calendar, offering students the chance to connect with plots, themes and characters, and with complex arguments. It’s about celebrating literary history, of intellectual discourse, of celebrating writers and helping BSB students to develop a love of books that will stay with them throughout their lives.”
This year, reflecting the new challenges and opportunities, we will celebrate a hybrid festival, with an extensive programme of author presentations and discussions, both virtual and on-campus, across the two-week event.
We’re so excited to launch this truly school-wide celebration of books and reading, inspiring our students to tell their stories, and fostering a truly lifelong love of books and reading! If you’d like to find out more about the BSB Book Festival 2021, follow our school social media channels.
Let’s set sail on an epic journey with a book!
