BSB celebrates a year of successes at 2025 Awards

Primary and Secondary students honoured for academic and personal achievements

In two uplifting ceremonies held on 12 June, The British School of Brussels proudly honoured the exceptional winners of the BSB Awards 2025, celebrating both Primary and Secondary students’ academic and personal achievements.

This year’s awards, as always, highlighted how BSB students excel in their studies and make a meaningful impact beyond the classroom. Through innovative projects, humanitarian initiatives, and creative campaigns, students have demonstrated remarkable resourcefulness and leadership, driving positive change within the school and the wider community.

“The ceremonies today are a celebration of individual achievement and contribution, as well as the shared learning, commitment, and connection which underpin our community here at BSB,” said Principal James Penstone. “These are special occasions in part because of the many students we are recognising but also because of the shared spirit that unites us as a community.”

Honouring young changemakers

The celebrations began with the Primary Awards in the afternoon, a vibrant ceremony recognising over 75 outstanding students across five key categories: Learner Awards, Working Together Awards, Inspiring Others Awards, Primary Specialist Awards, and Service & Character Awards. The winners of these were announced by the outgoing Primary Student Presidents, Hoshina, Aysana and Merel, who did a fantastic job as hosts.

After a packed hall of parents, families and staff paid tribute to each of our Primary Celebration Award winners, Neil Ringrose, Vice Principal and Head of Primary, summed up the overwhelming feeling of celebration and pride in his closing speech: “From our youngest learners in Kindergarten to our impressive Year 4s, we are celebrating achievements that have truly brought our BSB values to life.”

“We’ve seen confidence in the way students take pride in who they are,” he added. “We’ve seen care in the way they support their classmates. We’ve seen courage, curiosity, resilience, and respect—woven into the stories of every award presented today.”

“To all of our students, you are what makes this school community so vibrant and full of promise. We are proud of your efforts, your kindness, and your joyful approach to learning. Keep being curious. Keep being kind. Keep being you.”

Recognising achievements across all ages

In the evening, the celebrations continued as Primary students joined their Secondary peers for the whole school ceremony in a packed Jacques Rogge Hall. The event brought together proud parents, dedicated teachers, and members of the wider BSB community to celebrate over 137 awards, including Post-16 Subject Awards, Faculty Awards, and a variety of personal achievement accolades. The ceremony was hosted with poise and confidence by our outgoing Secondary Presidents Eashan and Julie.

We also welcomed a very special Guest of Honour to the awards evening this year, Rosalie Minnitt. Rosalie was a student at BSB from 2013 to 2015, and in the years since, she has become a distinctive and original voice in British comedy. Hers is a journey full of imagination, courage, and resilience and the school community was very proud to welcome Rosalie back to BSB for this prestigious event and to hear her thoughtful address.

Congratulations to all our award winners!

As he brought this year’s awards ceremony to a close, our Principal addressed the assembled audience and those students who had been honoured during the ceremony: “Congratulation all of our award winners this evening,” James said. “Your achievements are very well recognised – for your character, your commitment, and your contribution to our school community. Well done to each and every one of you.”

“My sincere thanks to our student presidents for presiding over the evening with such clarity and poise. And to Rosalie Minnitt — thank you for returning to BSB and for your thoughtful address. It has been a real pleasure to welcome you back.” James also thanked the many staff and teams that had worked tirelessly behind the scenes for many weeks to bring the ceremonies to life.

Everyone at BSB echoes James’s sentiment when we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all of this year’s award recipients and a sincere thank you to all those who attended and contributed to making the 2025 BSB Awards a truly memorable occasion.
