Sports

We want to ensure that students leave BSB with a love for activity and clear understanding of what constitutes a healthy active lifestyle.

Whether students are perfecting their skills or discovering new talents, our world class sporting facilities offer a wide variety of activities to choose from.

Sports at BSB foster a sense of well-being and accomplishment. Participating provides important lessons and develops skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship and determination. There is a wide range of opportunities available for both team and individual sports.

Our new Jacques Rogge Sports Centre was completed in 2016, comprising a 25m indoor swimming pool, a multi-purpose sports hall providing ample space and resources for a wide range of sports from basketball to badminton, a competition standard gymnasium, dance studio and fitness suite. BSB is the only international school in Belgium to have its own swimming pool.

In 2020, BSB completely renewed its outdoor sports facilities and with these impressive renovations the facilities at the school remain outstanding.  We organise over 120 sports clubs per week for both primary and secondary aged students.

We have created three pathways to ensure all our children benefit from our wide choice:

  • Academy Sport or tier 1 (Football, Gymnastics and Swimming). These sports run all year and have full time Heads of Sport who manage the teams of coaches
  • Competitive Sport or tier 2 (Volleyball, Basketball, Cross Country, Rugby 7’s and Athletics). These sports run on a seasonal basis, each roughly last 9 -12 weeks and are run by external professional coaches
  • Recreational Sport or tier 3 (Dance, Netball, Water-polo, Cricket, Sync Swimming and many more). Again, the majority are led by professional coaches

Students at BSB compete in ISST (International School Sports Tournaments) and SCIS (Sports Council of International Schools) which involves frequent European travel for tournaments and fixtures. We also compete in ISGA (Independent School Gymnastic Association) and ISFA (Independent School Football Association) – both organisations are UK based.  Alongside this we have established partnerships with West Ham United, Swim Swift Elite and the Special Olympics.

The wide range of sporting options we offer to our students is outstanding.

Our relationship with Special Olympics Belgium

The British School of Brussels (BSB) has enjoyed a 25-year relationship with the Special Olympics Belgium. We share the philosophy and the values of solidarity, respect and integration. BSB is actively involved in enhancing social integration and reaffirming the acceptance of people with disabilities.

We do this by offering the opportunity for Belgian Special Olympians with intellectual deficiencies to join BSB athletes and practice sports together using the sports’ facilities at the school. We are proud to be a Play Unified friend.
