A remarkable journey of resilience and dedication

Celebrating Mihika’s appearance at the World Transplant Games

This summer, The British School of Brussels was proud to celebrate the remarkable achievements of Mihika, one of our inspirational students, as she represented the USA at the World Transplant Games in Dresden, Germany from 18–21 August.

The Games unite transplant recipients and donors from across the globe to celebrate life, promote the importance of organ donation, and showcase the resilience of the human spirit. For Mihika, this milestone carried a deeply personal meaning. At just eight months old, she received a life-saving liver transplant – her mother serving as her donor. From such a critical start in life, Mihika’s journey to becoming an international competitor is a living testament to perseverance, strength, and hope.

Competing on the world stage

Mihika represented the USA in two events: the 5K road race and volleyball. Against determined international athletes, she excelled, winning a silver medal in the race within her age category. Beyond medals and rankings, her participation symbolised something far more powerful: a celebration of her journey and the new opportunities made possible through organ donation.

Raising awareness through sport

The World Transplant Games go far beyond sporting success. They are a platform for participants to share their stories and inspire others with the transformative impact of organ donation. Mihika’s courage, combined with the unwavering support of her family, adds a strong and personal voice to this message. Her success serves as a reminder that every act of donation has the power to give someone else a future filled with possibility.

“Participating in the Transplant Games was a life-changing opportunity,” says Mihika. “It introduced me to many incredible people whose lives have been transformed through organ donation. I encourage everyone to learn more about organ donation and how they can help.”

An inspiration to the BSB Community

Within the BSB community, Mihika is admired not only for her sporting accomplishments on campus in the gymnastic squad and in international competitions but also for her wide-ranging dedication to school life. As a former BSB Poet Laureate, she showcases her creativity, leadership, and passion for the arts. Her achievements – whether in the sports hall or the literary stage – embody the values of resilience and community spirit that we hold dear at BSB.

“Mihika is not only an exceptional student but a pleasure to have in our year group,” says Rachel Sheard, Mihika’s Head of Year. “We are so proud of her achievements at the Transplant Games and her promotion of the positive impacts of organ donation.”

Mihika’s story reflects the best of what it means to make a difference. She has shown her peers that true strength is not measured by medals alone but by the courage to embrace opportunities, share her story, and inspire positive change.

Perseverance and hope

The whole BSB community congratulates Mihika on her silver medal and her extraordinary participation at the World Transplant Games. Her journey from receiving a lifesaving transplant as a child to competing on the world stage is not only a personal triumph but also a powerful reminder of the incredible impact of organ donation.

Through her determination, advocacy, and deep engagement in the cultural life of the school, Mihika exemplifies the true community spirit of The British School of Brussels – and continues to inspire us all.
