The British School of Brussels (BSB) is a leading not-for-profit, inclusive international school with 1,350 students from around 70 countries. Set on a stunning green campus in Tervuren – close to both vibrant Leuven and cosmopolitan Brussels – we combine world-class facilities with a warm, welcoming community.
What truly sets BSB apart is not just what we do, but how we do it. Strong relationships, a shared sense of belonging, and a relentless commitment to quality underpin every aspect of school life. Our students are inspired to aim high, broaden their horizons, and thrive-academically, personally, and socially.
From our bespoke enquiry-based Primary curriculum to our outstanding range of pathways at Post-16 (A Levels, IB Diploma, and BTEC), and an enrichment programme offering hundreds of activities each week, BSB provides exceptional opportunities for every child. Our graduates go on to top universities worldwide, and these results are the natural outcome of a culture built on care, curiosity, and collaboration.
We are seeking a suitably qualified teacher of Art and Design to join an extremely successful department and to teach in the 11-14 age range mainly in the bilingual French-English classes. There is a possibility of bilingual classes in Design and Technology: Textiles, therefore being able to teach DT: Textiles would be an advantage.
The Art and Design department is part of the Art, Design and Technology Faculty and is a very successful subject at BSB. It is taught as a core curriculum subject through KS3 and is a popular option at GCSE, A-Level and at IB Diploma levels. The four specialist studios and Mac Suite host a variety of facilities for drawing and painting, graphic communication, ceramics and three-dimensional design, print, textiles and alternative media, giving teachers a variety of creative opportunities for their teaching.
In Years 7, 8 and 9, students are taught in mixed ability groups in which they experience a wide range of studies. Students develop their creativity and imagination in Art and Design through sustained activities. These help them to build on and improve their practical and critical skills and to extend their knowledge and experience of materials, processes and practices. Students will learn to engage confidently with art, craft and design, both in the contemporary world and from other times and cultures. They will become more independent in using visual language to communicate their own ideas, feelings and meanings. Throughout the course students are taught and encouraged to practice drawing and design skills. Historical and critical studies are also linked to their practical work. ICT is incorporated into projects. Year 9 is seen as an important diagnostic year for those students who wish to continue to study Art and Design.
