We are seeking a qualified and experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT) to join our Student Support Services Team. The SaLT will assess and support students with speech, language, and communication needs across the school, working both individually and in close collaboration with teachers, parents, and external professionals. He/she will be responsible for carrying out the professional duties of the role, in line with the Philosophy and Objectives of the school.
The role:
Teaching and Learning
- Assess referred students giving cause for concern, to identify speech, language, and communication needs (including DLD, articulation, fluency, social communication difficulties).
- Screen students referred and prioritise cases based on severity and need.
- Plan and deliver a programme of therapy to students either on an individual or group basis.
- Provide both direct therapy and indirect support through strategies delivered in collaboration with teaching staff.
- Support the class teachers working with students with needs, by offering strategies, support and professional learning.
- Maintain detailed, confidential records of assessments, interventions, and progress.
- Prepare reports for internal use and for referrals to external professionals when necessary.
- Promote the inclusion of students with needs within school.
Professional Development
- Participate in the school, team and individual review process.
- Actively seek professional learning (PL) opportunities in order to keep up to date with current SaLT practice and assessment methods.
- Participate in school arrangements for training and professional development
- Attend staff meetings as appropriate.
- Provide appropriate PL for other staff as and when required.
Communication
- Attend review and parent meetings to provide feedback on progress
- Report back to and liaise with class teachers, other AEN staff, parents
General Duties
- Reinforce and safeguard students’ health and safety
- Participate in general school duties when required
The school takes safeguarding children very seriously, with all staff being subjected to rigorous checks from the interview process onwards.
Qualifications:
- Qualified Speech & Language Therapist
- Fluent English speaker and accurate written English (medium of speech and language therapy delivery is English)
