Expert Panel: ‘Jobs lost, jobs gained: workforce transitions in an age of automation’

News 14 January 2019

The British School of Brussels (BSB), in partnership with the British and American Chambers of Commerce, Belgium, is hosting an Expert Panel discussion that will address this topical and important subject, on 12 February.

Chaired by Glenn Vaughan, Chief Executive, British Chamber of Commerce EU & Belgium, the discussion will revolve around McKinsey Global Institute’s report published in December 2017. The report assesses the changes that are likely to happen in the job market over the next 10 years.

Issues that will be addressed include how the workforce will change in the future, what skills and knowledge the next generation will need for a successful career, which industries and jobs are most likely to be affected, and how, and what, is the role of education in this changing world.

The co-author of the report and Director of McKinsey Global Institute, Jacques Bughin, will be our keynote speaker and will be joined by panellists:

  • Jaana Kajanmaa, Senior Director, Customer Experience, CISCO
  • Dr John W. Mitchell, President & CEO, IPC Association
  • Angela (Lei) Dong, Senior Vice President Human Resources, R&I Solvay
  • Melanie Warnes, CEO and Principal of The British School of Brussels (BSB)

Closing comments will be given by David Webber, Partner at Odgers Berndtston, on behalf of the American Chamber of Commerce, Belgium.

The event is organised in the framework of BSB’s Employer Engagement programme that provides opportunities for young people to engage with professionals from all backgrounds and sectors. Targeted at the future workforce, business community and parents, the discussion will enable the audience to discover how these changes will affect them.
